美國股權眾籌法案 (Regulation Crowdfunding) 於2016年5月開始實施，至今已有一年歷史。缺乏資本的企業家可以通過股權眾籌募集資金。此股權眾籌法案就是美國《創業企業促進法案》第三章，企業可透過出售部分股權予投資者，在12個月內募集高達107萬美元的資金。在香港，股權眾籌是禁忌，香港監管機構視之為「潘多拉的盒子」。在法律上，股權眾籌違反了香港《證券及期貨條例》，雖然有公司在香港營運眾籌業務，但大都是慈善或贊助形式的眾籌，又或是在《證券及期貨條例》的灰色地帶中營運。
